How To Create A Positive Classroom Environment – Every year around this time I think about … going back to school and creating a positive learning environment for my students. I truly believe it starts on day one. Students come to school full of confusion and anxiety. We want to avoid that anxiety when we walk through the doors of our school. I found it useful to organize a kick-off party on the first day of each school year. When the students arrive, they have a sign on the door saying “I wish you a successful school year!” I show them where to put their things and ask them to place them where they are comfortable (they didn’t give me the space until I saw the students working together for a few weeks). Balloons were scattered around the school, and gift bags were on their desks. They read their letters from my desk from last year’s students filling them in about our classrooms while I get my books and lunch. They open their treat bags at the table, which usually contain treats such as Straw Crazy, Pixy Stix or a “Best School Year Ever” pen, a sign, a homework snack, a granola bar, and an eraser. Sometimes cookies and goat’s cheese also smell. It usually changes every year. Some of the resources we use can be found in this package.

The fun that lies on the first day of school sets the tone for the year. The students are excited to be freed from their worries and anxieties in their new school. Sometimes it’s awkward for us to have a party on the first day of school. I always tell them that we have a party for the end of the year and a festive beginning!

On the first day of school, I read a few books before or after the transition period, such as First Nap, How I Spent My Summer Vacation, and This School Year Will Be the Best Ever! . I like to write a pattern on the first day and have the students write what they did during the summer or how they felt the night before the first day. These books are useful conversation starters and prepare students for writing.

My students also participate in various activities in the process of getting to know their partners and groups. We want to give them enough time to share and get to know their classmates in the first few weeks, as a sense of community is built.

18 Thoughtful conclusions are well managed in the worship of mankind. Some people come to school not knowing what civilized culture is because they don’t live in the center of it. The teacher must model civility, create a stimulating environment and expect students to do so.
